BIO

Sarah is an experienced swimming teacher, coach and international Masters swimmer based in Reading. As a swimming teacher with Reading Swimming Club’s Learn to Swim programme and coach of one of its Development squads, she is passionate about helping swimmers of all ages and abilities build confidence, develop excellent technique and achieve their goals.

Sarah’s own competitive journey began with Reading Swimming Club at the age of 12, progressing through county, regional and national competition. One of her earliest achievements was breaking the County Junior 800m Freestyle record in 1986, a record that stood for more than ten years.

While studying at the University of Bath, Sarah discovered triathlon and went on to compete successfully in sprint, Olympic-distance and endurance events, completing three Half Ironmans before taking on the iconic Ironman Lanzarote in 2002, exiting the swim in 50 minutes as fourth female and first non-professional athlete out of the water.

After taking time away from competition, Sarah returned to the pool through Masters swimming and has since proudly represented Great Britain at both European and World Championships. Her achievements include winning a silver medal in the 50m Backstroke at the 2023 European Short Course Championships in Madeira, achieving seventh place in both the 100m and 200m Backstroke at the 2024 World Championships in Doha, securing four Top 10 finishes at the 2022 European Championships in Rome, and earning a Top 10 European ranking in the 200m Backstroke.

Alongside pool competition, Sarah has developed a real passion for open water swimming, competing internationally in Masters events, completing the challenging 10.5-mile Windermere swim, and fulfilling a lifelong ambition by swimming the English Channel in August 2025 in 13 hours and 49 minutes during the 150th anniversary year of the first Channel crossing.

Today, Sarah combines over 40 years of competitive experience with a supportive, encouraging and technically focused coaching style. Whether teaching someone to swim for the very first time, helping a swimmer refine their technique, or supporting an athlete preparing for competition or an open water challenge, Sarah is passionate about helping every swimmer reach their full potential while enjoying their time in the water.
